Home Builders Defying the Negative News
My heart is soaring, finally a home builders association saying something positive. I can't tell you how frustrated I've become with builders and their associations over the last two years. Oh well, I'lll subdue my strong opinions about my experiences and send shout outs to http://www.defythetrends.com/ ..... Woooo Hoooo!
From builder online:
The anchor of this campaign, in its first phase this month, is a Web site,http://www.defythetrends.com/, which includes video clips that feature several local builders and HBA members, each touching on different reasons why it’s a good time for buyers to purchase a house. “What we’re doing is re-educating the public about the market,” says Jeff Click, the owner of Jeff Click Homes, who will serve as the association’s president in 2009 and has spearheaded the marketing campaign.
The promotion’s tagline pretty much says it all: “Don’t let the national media scare you out of the smartest move you can make.” The HBA’s contention is that the media have unfairly lumped Oklahoma City with markets that are experiencing far worse housing problems
From You Tube:
From NewsOK.com:
"EXTRA! EXTRA! Oklahoma Home Values on the Rise!”
That last part — "on the Rise!” — is even printed in bright red, on posters, fliers and a Web page, http://www.defythetrends.com/. It's all meant as an antidote for bad national news that the Oklahoma housing industry sees as poisoning home sales in the state.
The campaign even sports a Facebook Cause Page: Defy the Trend Cause Page ... go there and join and tell this builders association "Great Work" for defying the trend.
And by the way, if you're a builders association and you didn't like my attitude, then step up and do something with the hundreds of dollars each of your members is paying you every year ... something besides the status quo that didn't work.

Steve, glad to see you've picked this up. This is a huge initiative that's been in the works for some time and is the brainchild of a good friend. Please keep pushing it when you can, as the more the word gets out, the better for all of us!
Ryan, I was glad to help. I sat on our local board for our builders association here in Northwest Indiana. They have little vision and less ability to work together to talk to the community. As the market slid further I eventually resigned prior to attaining the Presidency.
I have always hoped the the builders association would be a vision caster and public relations machine for our industry. But sadly very few have the guts to even try.
Home sales are very local. Each Home Builder's Association should be doing what they can to give out information on the local market. Sounds like yours is doing a great job.
